Making a Difference Through Our Volunteers Programme

Making a Difference Through Our Volunteers Programme

At Speirs Finance Group, giving back to our community and making a difference is important to us. Through our Volunteers Program, we actively support initiatives that create a meaningful impact in the lives of others. This commitment to giving back enables our team to connect with communities across New Zealand and contribute to causes that matter to our team.

In 2024, our staff embraced opportunities to volunteer at various events and organisations throughout the country, from Auckland to Palmerston North and Christchurch. Each initiative brought its own unique experiences and rewards, as our team came together to make a difference.

Special Olympics Interschool Football in Auckland

Earlier this year, our Auckland-based team members volunteered at a Special Olympics Interschool Football competition, contributing their time and energy to ensure the event ran smoothly. The team helped with scoring, organising teams, running skills drills, timekeeping, and managing event logistics.

The highlight of the day, as shared by Sam Pomare, was “seeing the kids with a smile on their face.” The joy and enthusiasm of the participants made the experience unforgettable for everyone involved.

Supporting Volunteer Central and Interschool Hockey in Palmerston North

In Palmerston North, Speirs Finance partnered with Whatunga Tūao | Volunteer Central, an organisation supporting the communities of Palmerston North, Horowhenua, Manawatū, and Tararua.

Through Volunteer Central, our Palmerston North team took part in the Interschool Hockey competition in September. They worked tirelessly behind the scenes, managing the busy carpark and keeping the event grounds clean and tidy. Their dedication ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participants and spectators.

Ronald McDonald House in Christchurch

In Christchurch, our team made a meaningful contribution by volunteering at Ronald McDonald House (RMDH). They took on essential spring cleaning and gardening tasks, preparing the house for the busy Christmas and holiday period.

The house coordinator expressed heartfelt gratitude for the team’s efforts:

“The team swept through the house and ticked off some much-needed jobs like it was nothing. Their energy and eagerness were like a breath of fresh air, and we truly appreciated their help.”

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we reflect on our 2024 volunteering initiatives, we are excited about new opportunities to give back in 2025. In February, our team will join Fair Food, Auckland’s original food rescue charity.

Fair Food recovers surplus fresh food from growers, manufacturers, and supermarkets, distributing it to whānau in need. They also prepare hundreds of meals each week through their Conscious Kitchen, supporting individuals recovering from trauma, seeking safe shelter, or struggling with hunger.

Our team are looking forward to contributing to Fair Food’s inspiring mission of reducing food waste and providing nutritious meals to those who need them most.

A Commitment to Community

At Speirs Finance, we believe in building stronger communities through action. Whether it’s supporting sports for young people, assisting families in need, or championing environmental sustainability, our Volunteers Programme allows us to make a real difference. We’re proud of the efforts of our staff in 2024 and look forward to continuing this meaningful work in 2025 and beyond. Together, we’re helping to create a brighter, more connected future for all.
